'Clear Grade Western Red Cedar'
Frequently Asked QuestionsHow much?
A-decks are very competitively priced starting at around £85 per square metre for a basic deck using standard timbers. This price includes sub-frame construction and fixing, to the finished deck. More complicated decks, using superior timbers are priced accordingly.
Does the deck become slippery when it is wet?
A-Decks treated timber dries very quickly but as with all wooden surfaces one has to be be cautious immediately after it has rained. For this reason we do not recommend grooved timber which retains water and dirt which can build up to become very slippery underfoot.
How do I maintain my deck?
Good quality decks only require to be washed occasionally.
Do I need planning permission?
Most decks do not require local authority planning consent as there are no walls or roof and the deck is not classified as a house extension. However if your house is listed or in a conservation area, we strongly advise you to contact your local planning department before commencing work.
How do I maintain my deck?
Sweep any dirt and debris from your deck periodically with a stiff brush to avoid build up between the decking boards. Debris between the boards can soak up water, promoting rot. Discolouration can be caused by a layer of mildew covering the deck and cleaning is sometimes the only thing that is needed. We recommend an annual clean with a pressure spray.
Softwoods will weather over a period of time and the original colour will fade. This can be delayed by applying wax every couple of years. Hardwoods need to be oiled once a year to maintain their colour or the wood will fade to the same colour of softwood.
